orton Grange Country House is probably my favourite venue in the Newcastle area. I’ve drawn live caricatures here at several weddings, and it’s always a fantastic experience. The staff are incredibly organised, friendly and helpful, and the whole day tends to run really smoothly from a supplier’s point of view. It’s also one of those venues that’s almost impossible to take a bad photo in — everywhere you turn there’s another beautiful backdrop, whether it’s the gardens, the light-filled interiors or the elegant country house itself.

As a venue, it manages to feel both polished and relaxed at the same time. The exclusive-use setup gives weddings a really intimate atmosphere, and because the house sits in four acres of private grounds, couples and guests can properly spread out and enjoy the day without feeling cramped or rushed. The mix of contemporary styling and traditional country house charm works brilliantly too.

The outdoor space is absolutely beautiful and works brilliantly at pretty much every stage of the wedding day. I often draw during drinks receptions or later in the evening, and it always creates a great atmosphere with guests gathering around, chatting and laughing in the gardens. The grounds are a real highlight of Horton Grange — especially in summer when the garden seems to become its own little sun trap. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever entertained at a drinks reception there without sunshine appearing at some point.

One thing couples really underestimate until they visit is how versatile the venue is. There are loads of lovely indoor and outdoor spaces for guests to move between, which keeps the energy of the day flowing naturally. The garden gazebo, terrace and bright modern ceremony spaces all photograph beautifully and give guests somewhere comfortable to relax throughout the day.
