Caricaturist in Newcastle – A Local Perspective
I originally come from Cumbria, but I’ve lived in Newcastle for over 15 years, and it’s a city I know incredibly well.
I’ve lived in Heaton and Jesmond, with a brief stint in the West End, and over the years I’ve worked across the whole city, both as a youth worker and as part of the Arts Development team. For the last 12 years, I’ve been working full-time as a professional caricaturist, providing live caricature entertainment in Newcastle for weddings, corporate events, and parties across the North East.
When I first moved here, the Geordies completely won me over. You couldn’t meet a friendlier group of people, they’ve got a brilliant sense of humour, and that’s exactly why live entertainment in Newcastle works so well. My slightly cheeky, irreverent style as a Newcastle caricaturist always seems to go down a storm.
Because of that, I’ve worked in venues all across the city, from hidden gems to some of the most well-known wedding and event spaces, performing as both a wedding entertainer in Newcastle and a corporate event entertainer.
Newcastle is an amazing place for events. There’s always something happening, loads of energy, great nightlife, and new venues popping up all the time, which makes it perfect for interactive entertainment and live artists in Newcastle.
That said, here are some of my favourite venues in and around Newcastle, and why they work so well for live caricature entertainment and wedding illustration in Newcastle.

Entertainment at
Wylam Brewery
Wylam Brewery is one of those Newcastle wedding venues that’s built a real reputation for its cool, alternative vibe, and it absolutely lives up to it. Set right in the middle of Exhibition Park with the lake in front, it’s one of the most unique and visually striking venues in Newcastle.
Originally a train manufacturing building, it has that proper Newcastle industrial heritage, and it’s been transformed into an incredible space for weddings, corporate events in Newcastle, and large social celebrations.
I’ve worked here many times as a Newcastle caricaturist, providing live caricature entertainment for both weddings and corporate events, and it’s always an amazing atmosphere. The space works brilliantly for live entertainment in Newcastle, with plenty of room to move around, interact with guests, and keep the energy flowing.
It’s also a dream venue for photography, it’s genuinely hard to take a bad photo here, so your photographer will love it. From a live artist’s perspective, it’s one of the best spaces in Newcastle to create memorable moments and keep guests engaged.
It can be a little tricky to get to, so it’s worth planning transport, whether that’s arranging buses or guiding guests in advance. That said, you’re right in the heart of the city, with plenty of nearby accommodation options.
And ultimately, if you’re planning a high-energy wedding or event in Newcastle, it’s hard to beat a brewery setting for atmosphere, interaction, and a proper celebration.

I often work the evening here, when the energy is high and guests are ready to party. It’s the perfect time to bring in something interactive like live caricature entertainment in Newcastle, keeping guests engaged and the atmosphere going all night.

Tyne Bank Brewery
Tyne Bank Brewery is really cool venue with a proper alternative Newcastle feel, very much in line with the Heaton / Ouseburn scene and its nightlife. Every wedding I’ve worked at here has had that “too cool for school” vibe, but still with a touch of elegance.
If you’re planning a big celebration and want to bring all your friends together for a proper party, this is a brilliant place to do it. There’s always a great energy here, and it works perfectly for couples who want something a bit different from a traditional wedding venue.
You’re close to the Quayside, so while outdoor space at the venue is limited, there are some fantastic nearby spots for photos. While you’re off having those taken, I can be back with your guests, drawing live caricatures and keeping everyone entertained during the drinks reception, after-meal lull, or into the evening.

There’s loads of flexibility here. I’ve worked drinks receptions, after-meal lulls, and evening events, and it works brilliantly at every stage, keeping guests engaged and the atmosphere buzzing.

The Willows at the Woodsman, Whickham
An absolutely beautiful venue set in the countryside just outside Newcastle. The interior is stunning, and the whole place has a really relaxed, welcoming feel. I’ve drawn live caricatures here several times, and it’s a fantastic space for entertaining guests during drinks receptions and evening celebrations. Top tip the bar next door does an award winning pie so if you are in the area and want to check out the venue, combine the two you'll not be disappointed !

The outdoor space is more limited here, which actually works really well for live entertainment. Guests stay together, so it’s the perfect time to keep everyone engaged, laughing, and part of the atmosphere.

As You Like It, Jesmond
A venue I work at a lot in Newcastle caricature entertainment for weddings and events. It’s right in jesmond near the metro and always has a lively, fun atmosphere.
It’s not a private hire venue, so the bar is upstairs open to the public, but that actually adds to the buzz but the downstairs does feel private and seperate so you get the best of both worlds. It’s always a vibrant, energetic wedding here in the heart of Jesmond. Being part of the Apartment Group, you get all the expertise and style of some of Northumberland’s best venues right in the city.
I love drawing here during drinks receptions, moving between groups and walking around tables, creating quick-fire caricatures and keeping guests entertained as the atmosphere builds.
They don’t have accommodation on site, but being right in the city centre means it’s easy to get to by public transport, and there are plenty of great places to stay nearby.

Outdoor space is limited, but the surrounding area has some cracking spots for photos. Because it has a late licence, I’m often booked later into the evening, which works perfectly for high-energy live entertainment, keeping guests engaged right through the night.

Jesmond Dene House
Jesmond Dene House is a fantastic Newcastle wedding venue right in the heart of Jesmond. Set within the beautiful, historic Jesmond Dene, it feels peaceful and tucked away while still being close to the city.
The house dates back to the 19th century and has loads of character, with a really elegant, high-end feel throughout. It’s a brilliant mix of history, style, and a relaxed atmosphere.
I’ve provided live caricature entertainment in Newcastle here many times, and it’s always a pleasure to work at. In fact, this is where I did one of my very first gigs, so it’s a venue that’s always stuck with me.
There’s fantastic outdoor space for drinks receptions, and the indoor rooms are just as impressive, making it ideal for keeping guests entertained throughout the day.

Horton Grange
This is probably my favourite venue in the Newcastle area. I’ve drawn live caricatures here at several weddings, and it’s always a fantastic experience, the staff are super organised and helpful and its really hard to take a bad photo.

The outdoor space is absolutely beautiful, and it works at pretty much any point in the day. I often draw during drinks receptions or in the evening, and it always creates a great atmosphere, plus the garden is a bit of a sun trap, i dont think ive ever entertained at a drinks reception here without it being sunny.

Spanish City, Whitley Bay
Spanish City is a fantastic coastal wedding venue near Newcastle, set right on the seafront in Whitley Bay. You get the best of everything here, sea views, fresh air, and that lively, up-and-coming vibe that Whitley Bay has become known for.
It’s a stunning building, full of light, with incredible views out to the coast. It’s one of those venues where it’s genuinely hard to take a bad photograph, your photographer will love it.
I’ve provided live caricature entertainment near Newcastle here at weddings and events, and it’s always a brilliant space to work in. There’s a beautiful indoor area that works perfectly for drawing during drinks receptions, after-meal lulls, and evening entertainment.
On really sunny days, it can work outdoors too, which adds something special, but most of the time I’m drawing inside where the space, lighting, and flow of guests make it ideal for mix-and-mingle caricature entertainment.

Shotton Grange
It’s genuinely hard to go wrong choosing Shotton Grange for a wedding or event. It’s one of the standout Newcastle wedding venues, with a beautiful building, stunning gardens, and a really well-finished interior that works perfectly for both weddings and corporate events.
I’ve worked here many times as a Newcastle caricaturist, providing live caricature entertainment for weddings and events. The grounds are fantastic, the staff are brilliant, and being just outside Newcastle with easy access to the A1, it’s a really convenient location for guests.
As a wedding entertainer in Newcastle, I often draw during drinks receptions out in the gardens, where guests are relaxed and social, and then again during the room turnaround and into the evening. In the summer especially, the outdoor space really comes into its own, making it ideal for live entertainment in Newcastle that keeps guests engaged throughout the day.

There’s a fantastic outdoor space here, which is perfect for live caricatures during drinks receptions or in the evening. Guests spread out but stay social, making it ideal for mix-and-mingle caricature entertainment that keeps the energy flowing and guests interacting.

The Vermont Hotel
A stunning venue with a real sense of history and character. As a bit of a history geek, I really appreciate the unique feel of this place, which used to be the city’s old town hall. I’ve provided live caricature entertainment here, and it’s always a fantastic setting for weddings and events. Plus the 1920s where the gold agage of caricature so i always feel like i am drawing at some swanky 1920's party here.

Outdoor space is limited unless you book the rooftop (which I highly recommend for drinks receptions—the views across Newcastle are stunning). Inside, the rooms are large, elegant, and perfect for live caricature entertainment that keeps guests engaged throughout.

The Parlour at Blagdon
One of my favourite venues to work at, just outside of Cramlington and only minutes off the A1 It has a really chilled, relaxed atmosphere that works perfectly for live caricatures and guest interaction, staff are increabile and the food is out of this world.

There’s loads of great outdoor space here, so I often draw during drinks receptions or later in the evening when guests are relaxed and ready to have a laugh.
