How Do You Keep Wedding Guests Entertained All Day? Healey Barn Wedding, Northumberland

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of working at Healey Barn for Tom and Frankie’s wedding, and what a day it was. A full-day booking, great people, loads of laughs, and one of those weddings where everything just clicks.

One of the questions I get asked a lot as a wedding entertainer in Northumberland and Newcastle is, how do you keep guests entertained throughout the whole day?

Well, this wedding was a perfect example of how it can work.

I started during the drinks reception with quickfire caricature portraits. This part of the day can sometimes feel a bit slow, guests are arriving, mingling, waiting for things to begin, so it’s the perfect time to inject a bit of energy. I move around, mix and mingle, have a bit of banter, get people laughing, draw them quickly, and move on.

This kind of interactive wedding entertainment works brilliantly as an icebreaker and gives guests something unique to take away. I probably got through about 20 to 25 guests in that time.

While everyone headed in for speeches and food, I took a short break and worked on a larger wedding illustration of Tom and Frankie together. Then, once the mains were finished, I presented it to them, and that moment was brilliant. Big cheers, a round of applause, and a real buzz in the room.

Live wedding art like this creates a real shared moment, it’s not just something to look at later, it becomes part of the day itself.

After desserts, I was back up and moving again. That post-meal lull can be a tricky moment, people start to get a bit restless, the room gets turned around, and there’s a natural dip in energy. But this is where being a mobile wedding illustrator really comes into its own.

I’m not stuck behind a table in the corner, I’m out there with the guests, keeping things flowing and making sure the entertainment carries right through the day.

As the evening guests arrived around six, I kept things going for another couple of hours, drawing and chatting, before wrapping up just after the first dance. All in all, I drew around 60 to 65 people across the day.

It was one of those weddings that just felt easy, fun, relaxed, and full of great moments, and a perfect example of how the right wedding entertainment can carry your guests from start to finish.

The Venue, Healey Barn

Healey Barn, just outside Corbridge, is one of the standout wedding venues in Northumberland. It’s a beautifully restored barn with loads of character, high oak beams, open fires, and a really warm, relaxed atmosphere throughout the day.

The outdoor space is ideal for drinks receptions, giving guests room to spread out, enjoy the countryside, and get stuck into the early part of the celebrations.

And the food, honestly, was out of this world.

A big shoutout as well to Sarah, the wedding coordinator, who really looked after me throughout the day. It makes such a difference working with a venue team that’s on it.

I was lucky to be working alongside some fantastic suppliers too.

And as always, it was an absolute pleasure working with Two Tone Photography:

Chrissy and Nigel are not only some of the best photographers in the North East, their work is genuinely magical, but they’re also just brilliant people.
